Jimmy D. Lane and his band will perform at the Flatland Blues Festival in Russell on Saturday evening, June 4th. Lane replaces the Carey Bell Band after emergency health issues prevented Bell from coming from Chicago for the festival. Hosts of the festival, Friends of the Deines Cultural Center, Russell Arts Council and Russell Main Street are pleased to have such a quality musician able to fill out the schedule.
The son of blues legend, Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy D. Lane grew up in a household where he became acquainted with Chicago bluesmen. Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Little Walter, Coming from this environment has instilled in Lane the deepest respect for elder statesmen of the blues.
By 1987 he became lead guitarist of the Jimmy Rogers Band as well as forming his own band. Jimmy made his solo recording debut in 1995. The self titled disc features 12 originals and one of his dad's tunes. Then he met the people who would put his recording career into high gear, producer John Koenig and head of Acoustic Sounds, Chad Kassem.. They got together and Jimmy recorded “Long Gone” for Analogue Productions at Ocean Way Studios In Los Angeles, which was released in 1997.
Off stage, Lane's positive outlook on life is reflected in one of his favorite phrases "It's all good." Originally the title of his second release, but changed to “Legacy” in honor of his father's memory and the rich blues heritage he grew up with. Released in May '98, “Legacy” features guest appearances of blues greats Sam Lay on drums, Carey Bell on harp and Sumlin on guitar. It also features the last recordings of Jimmy Rogers.
Jimmy D. Lane's music is on the rocking side, but is tempered with just the right amount of blues tradition. Lane is a passionate blues singer, songwriter and guitarist with a deep respect for "all those old cats who were there".
The Jimmy D. Lane Band, from Salina and Wichita, will perform at approximately 6:00 at the live festival held at the County Fair Grasslands and Memorial Park in Russell. The festival starts at 11:00 am.
