Flatland Blues Festival - Russell, KS June 34, 2006 Bagels & Blues
Sunday morning services in an outdoor setting with blues gospel musicians and brunch….that’s the scene for “Bagels and Blues” this Sunday, June 4th, in Russell for the second day of the third annual Flatland Blues Festival.
The day begins with a community gospel service at 10:00. Rev. Eric Malone of the 2nd Baptist Church in Russell will lead the service and give the message. Musicians participating in the gospel music service include Ronn Raymer, Fossil Creek Boys, New Hope Quartet and New Hope and Friends choir. Returning from Saturday’s festival stage, musicians Lemuel Sheppard, Watermelon Slim and Anthony Gomes also plan to join in the gospel sing.
The Bagels and Blues Brunch is provided to those attending Sunday services by Darlene Hrdlicka and John Thouvenelle of Russell Vet Service. Bagels are donated by McDonalds.
As part of the “Blues for Food” program, participants are encouraged to bring canned or non-perishable items for the Russell County Food Pantry as they come to the service and brunch. No other admission will be charged. Some chairs will be available, but people attending are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to the County Fair Grasslands and Memorial Park where Bagels and Blues will take place.
Hosts for the Flatland Blues Festival are Russell Main Street, Russell Arts Council and the Friends of the Deines Cultural Center. Major underwriters for the Festival include U.S. Energy Partners, Holland and Holland, AmericInn, Russell Vet Service, United National Bank, KRSL-KCAY, Russell County News, Steve and Kendra Trueblood. Support is also provided by the City of Russell and Russell County and in part by Sprint and the Kansas Arts Commission.
